This policy sets out when National LifeSkills Academy issues a certificate, what a certificate means, and how it can be replaced, verified or withdrawn.
When a certificate is issued
A certificate is issued when a learner has completed every lesson in the course and passed the summative assessment at the published pass mark. Partial completion does not lead to a certificate.
What a certificate records
- The learner’s name, as entered at enrolment.
- The full course title.
- The date of completion.
- The CPD hours awarded.
- The NLSA CPD provider number and, where the course itself is accredited, the course accreditation details.
- A unique certificate reference number.
- A link to the scope and limitations of the training.
What a certificate does not mean
A certificate records completion of awareness or professional development training. It is not a clinical, regulated or vocational qualification, and it does not confer competence, authority or accreditation beyond that which the course title states.
Where a course covers safety-critical subject matter, the certificate does not authorise the holder to act outside their employer’s policies and procedures. This is stated on the certificate and on the course Terms and Scope page.
Validity and refresher training
A certificate records completion on a given date and does not expire. Where national guidance expects training to be refreshed at an interval, that interval is stated in the course and on the certificate. For allergy and anaphylaxis training, the statutory guidance for schools in England expects annual refresher training.
Verification
An employer or third party may verify a certificate by contacting NLSA with the certificate reference number. NLSA confirms only whether the certificate is genuine, the course title and the date, and discloses nothing further without the learner’s consent.
Replacement
Learners may download their certificate at any time while they have access to the platform. A replacement copy can be requested from NLSA.
Withdrawal
A certificate may be withdrawn where it was obtained through malpractice, where it was issued in error, or where the learner’s identity cannot be confirmed. The learner is told in writing and may appeal under the Appeals Policy.
Records
Certification records are retained for six years, in line with the Data Protection Policy, so that certificates can be verified and replaced.
Use of accreditation marks
Accreditation logos and provider numbers are used only as permitted by the awarding body, and only for courses and activities they cover.
