This policy sets out how National LifeSkills Academy verifies content that is safety critical, clinical or otherwise capable of causing harm if it is wrong.

Scope

This policy applies to any content that describes a medical condition, an emergency response, a medicine, a dose, a timing, a piece of equipment, or any other instruction a learner might act on in a real emergency. Allergy and anaphylaxis training falls within it.

Who reviews

Clinical content is reviewed by a registered healthcare professional with current expertise in the relevant field. The reviewer’s name, registration and date of review are recorded. The reviewer must be independent of the drafting of the content.

What is reviewed

• Every clinical statement, including signs, symptoms and the distinction between conditions.
• Every emergency procedure, including the order of steps.
• Every dose, quantity, timing and repeat interval.
• Every statement about devices, their use, storage and disposal.
• Images and illustrations that show clinical technique.
• Assessment questions and feedback that rest on any of the above.

Evidence base

Clinical content is based on current national guidance, for example from the relevant government department, the Resuscitation Council UK, recognised national charities and the medicines regulator. Where guidance is silent, the content says so rather than filling the gap.

Sign-off

Content within scope is not published until the reviewer has confirmed it in writing. Where a reviewer raises a point, the content is amended and re-confirmed. The sign-off record is retained and is available to accrediting bodies.

Keeping content current

Clinical content is re-reviewed at least every 12 months, and immediately when relevant guidance changes. Where a change affects learner safety, the course is updated before further enrolments are taken and existing learners are notified.

Conflicts of interest

Reviewers declare any commercial interest in a product mentioned in the content. No manufacturer has editorial control over NLSA content. Product images used under licence do not give the licensor any influence over what the course says.
